EU bans claim that water can prevent dehydration Brussels bureaucrats were ridiculed yesterday after banning drink manufacturers from claiming that water can prevent dehydration. EU officials concluded that, following a three-year investigation, there was no evidence to prove the previously undisputed fact. Producers of bottled water are now forbidden by law from making the claim and will face a two-year jail sentence if they defy the edict, which comes into force in the UK next month. Last night, critics claimed the EU was at odds with both science and common sense. Conservative MEP Roger Helmer said: “This is stupidity... “The euro is burning, the EU is falling apart and yet here they are: highly-paid, highly-pensioned officials worrying about the obvious qualities of water and trying to deny us the right to say what is patently true. “If ever there were an episode which demonstrates the folly of the great European project then this is it.” See Article | Strange Times We live in strange times, the article (see left) clearly indicates an issue, but what is the REAL issue? In my humble opinion, the issue is that legislation is encroaching on common sense. If, according to Law, water cannot be said to hydrate and yet we all know (or do we?) that life could not be sustained without it, plants and animals would die, we would die, it is therefore essential to life. Legislation is often confused with Law but it is different in many ways. In Law, as I understand it, there is no crime without an injured party whereas under Legislation 'everything' can be criminalised. Herbal Medicines are currently under the legislative 'microscope' with a view to 'protecting the public' from gaining access to Herbal Medicines and Plants that have been used as medicine for thousands of years. The Pharmacuticals are often just a chemically derived version of the natural 'balanced' remedy but with side-effects and a huge price tag. For almost 12 years I have had a painful Planar Wart on the base of my foot, I nearly went to see a chripodist who would have eventually had to start cutting my feet up after charging me for consultation and topical creams but instead I used 'Google'. I watched a few YouTube videos showing amazing results, so I tried it. The suggestions were simple; Gaffa Tape with or without Apple Cider Vinegar, Banana Skin or Colloidal Silver. In less than 24hrs I could walk pain free. The 'home remedy' worked... so when will there be legislation protecting us from this useful remedy? Ask yourself? Do you want to live in a world that criminalises common sense and rewards stupidity? Are we not told to save fuel, create less CO2, etc... To quote the Telegraph, the ASA are "trying to deny us the right to say what is patently true". |
